Richmond BMX in...you guessed it, Richmond, Virginia just finished their 9th annual Flat Pedal Pro-Am Open. No clips allowed. FrequentLeigh heads to Richmond BMX for the Flat Pedal Pro/Am, where pros and ams throw down old-school style for a serious cash purse.
For those not familiar with BMX racing, most of the pros and established amateurs ride with shoes that clip into the pedals giving them more power with each pedal stroke because they can also pull up when pedaling. Plus their feet stay put. But everyone has to start with your typical flat pedals where you rely on the pins in the pedal to grip the soles of your shoes. This can make it a little harder to race once you master the clip in versions.
And we're back! So, Richmond BMX does this race once a year and raises a lot of dough for a payout. This year they raised over $12K. The base purse is split equally between the men and women with the additional entry fees going towards the purse.
